respiratory therapy

And for my second Blogger’s Quilt Festival entry, I chose a quilt I made for a Project Quilting challenge. I like to call it Respiratory Therapy.

This quilt is very near and dear to my heart, as I made it with my son Rowan in mind. Without getting too far into the details of everything, I will just say that Rowan was born very early (at 26 weeks to be exact), after ten weeks of bedrest. The going was rough for quite some time. He needed a lot of help, especially with his under-developed lungs. We weren’t able to bring him home with us until he was 6 months old, and this was with a trach, home ventilator (breathing machine), and feeding tube. He remained on the breathing machine at home until he was nearly two years old. So needless to say, I thought about this word a lot:

Here are a few pics of our journey:

starin erin ==> this was taken a few days after he was born. two pounds, three ounces of pure love!

superbaby==> here he is at about one year old. SUPERBABY!

pumpkins! roar!

both of the above pictures were taken last fall, around Halloween.

And here he is helping me with the quilt’s photoshoot!

These days, I can finally “breathe” a little easier seeing that he is doing okay, and we are about to celebrate birthday number 3! I hope you enjoyed my post, and I really hope you enjoy all of the other fantastic quilts at the blogger’s quilt festival.

I love your quilt! My father, my brother and his wife are all RT’s and they are very special people…I’ve been wanting to make a quilt for my brother and I think this is the inspiration I needed. I’m glad your little boy is doing so well!

Awesome! I think I forgot to mention in the post that I am also a nurse. I work in the hospital close to a lot of RTs. I’m super appreciative of everything they do! Thanks for commenting, and good luck with your quilt! I hope you share your progress!
